Where to go in Austin for Free Summer Concerts
Austin, Texas is known as the capital of the world for live music and that's not by mistake. The city heats up in the summer and as the days get longer; it's time to check out the many free concerts held throughout the summer. Here's a look at some of the top summer concerts in the city.
Concerts in the Park
If you want to enjoy performances from the Austin Symphony Orchestra, this is the free concert series for you. There will be several performances ranging from light classical to pop to jazz with several film scores and so much more. Enjoy the music as you take in the views of Lady Bird Lake and the skyline. This is a great choice if you want to hear live music and enjoy a picnic with family and friends.
The Concerts in the Park will be held throughout June, July, and August.
Live Music at the Oasis
With two live music venues, the Oasis is a top spot for great music in the summer. Enjoy a concert at the Starlight Terrace or Beau's Backyard Both feature Austin bands covering all types of genres every weekend. You can enjoy plenty of food and drink while enjoying the concerts here. The Oasis also offers free salsa lessons on Sundays.
Concerts at The Oasis will be held through June and July.
Music on the Square
Making the trip to Georgetown to enjoy Music on the Square is a great way to listen to live music near Austin. The concerts are held at the Courthouse Square and include plenty of local bans for you to enjoy. All concerts during the summer happen on Friday nights from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.
Music on the Square in Georgetown will be held through June, July, and August. Bands, such as the Bluegrass Showmen, Wilson String, and the Steel Country Outlaws will perform.
The Wine Down
For the sixth year in a row, The Wine Down will be held at the 2nd Street corridor each month. It's a great chance to enjoy live music, free food samples and plenty of happy hour specials. The proceeds will help to benefit the Austin Music Foundation.
Concerts are held once per month and will include The Sour Notes on May 30th, Melat on June 27th, Grace Pettis Band on July 25th, Love & Chaos on August 29th and Blackillac on September 26th.
Unplugged at the Grove
Presented by 93.3 KGSR and Shady Grove, Unplugged at the Grove has been going on for 25 years now. It's a great chance to enjoy free live music every Thursday. There will be plenty of food and fun at this event and you can enjoy it without any cover charge. This is the longest running free concert series in Austin.
Unplugged at the Grove is a 23-week concert series and will run through June, July, August and two weeks into September.
