Where to go for Water Fun in San Antonio

The summer sun is feeling hot, hot, hot and that means you need somewhere to take your family to cool off. There is nothing better than your backyard pool, right? Actually, San Antonio has some excellent water options that your kids will thank you for finding.

Not only are there public pools for those neighborhoods without, but you’ll find some great splash pads for the little ones and even incredible waterparks to allow your kids to go wild. Take a look at where you’ll want to go this summer to have some fun in the San Antonio sun.

Free splash pad spots

A great way to cool off this season when you have kids is to hit a splash pad, and the good news is that you can find several around town. Stop by the popular Yanaguana Garden’s splash pad found in Hemisfair Park, right in the heart of Downtown San Antonio.

It’s a popular choice because of the location, how beautiful it is, and the easy access to nearby changing rooms and restrooms for a way to dry off. Parents can have a seat while the kids cool off.

Be sure to check out the Bulverde Community Park splash pad over at 29815 Bulverde Lane for another great option. The kids will be able to control the water feature, use the playscape, and cool off under some shade.

You’ll love the brand new Pearsall Park splash pad option that offers the cleanest and most modern option. Pack a picnic as there are picnic tables, a skate park, a playground, and more to enjoy during your visit.

Be sure to also check out the New Braunfels’ Fischer Park Sprayground as well as The Pearl Splash Pad near The Twig for more fun options.

Public pools

If the kids really want to get wet, make sure to visit a public pool this summer in the area. You don’t need to bring your wallet if you don’t want, because you can catch the free pool option offered through the San Antonio Parks and Rec Department at their 24 outdoor area pools.

They are open until 7pm for open swim with lap swimming in Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings. For a small admission fee, you can enjoy the indoor pool at The Natatorium; perfect for those rainy summer days.

Be sure to check out options like the YMCA at O.P. Schnabel Park which features a splash pad and pool, the Northside Swim Center at 8400 N Loop 1604 W, or the George Block Aquatics Center at 7001 Culebra Road. You’ll also find a pool option at the Josh Davis Natatorium & Bill Walker Pool at 12002 Jones Maltsberger Rd. and swimming lesson options at some of the local YMCA’s.

Hit the waterpark

If you want to get wet and wild, you’ll definitely to check out our area waterparks, slides, and resort pools. A staycation may be in order so that you can enjoy the fun at attractions like Six Flags Fiesta Texas, the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa which features a waterpark, or the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort offering a luxury zero-entry pool along with water slides and a huge hot tub.

Be sure to also stop by Splashtown for its 45 water attractions and rides, Aquatica San Antonio, La Cantera Resort featuring poolside cabanas and five different pools, as well as Schlitterbahn, the Best Waterpark in the World according to Amusement Today.

You can’t beat cooling off in the water for some relief from the San Antonio summers. Be sure to check out these locations when you need somewhere to cool off in the water!
