Free splash pad spots
A great way to cool off this season when you have kids is to hit a splash pad, and the good news is that you can find several around town. Stop by the popular Yanaguana Garden’s splash pad found in Hemisfair Park, right in the heart of Downtown San Antonio.
It’s a popular choice because of the location, how beautiful it is, and the easy access to nearby changing rooms and restrooms for a way to dry off. Parents can have a seat while the kids cool off.
Be sure to check out the Bulverde Community Park splash pad over at 29815 Bulverde Lane for another great option. The kids will be able to control the water feature, use the playscape, and cool off under some shade.
You’ll love the brand new Pearsall Park splash pad option that offers the cleanest and most modern option. Pack a picnic as there are picnic tables, a skate park, a playground, and more to enjoy during your visit.
Be sure to also check out the New Braunfels’ Fischer Park Sprayground as well as The Pearl Splash Pad near The Twig for more fun options.
If the kids really want to get wet, make sure to visit a public pool this summer in the area. You don’t need to bring your wallet if you don’t want, because you can catch the free pool option offered through the San Antonio Parks and Rec Department at their 24 outdoor area pools.
They are open until 7pm for open swim with lap swimming in Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings. For a small admission fee, you can enjoy the indoor pool at The Natatorium; perfect for those rainy summer days.
Be sure to check out options like the YMCA at O.P. Schnabel Park which features a splash pad and pool, the Northside Swim Center at 8400 N Loop 1604 W, or the George Block Aquatics Center at 7001 Culebra Road.
