Upcoming Austin Events for December 2017
Your favorite time of year is coming up. That’s right; it’s time for holiday celebrations in Austin. You’ve just put your costume away from your Halloween party and you’re about to thaw out the turkey, but before you enjoy Thanksgiving, make sure you are ready for the fun that is coming up for the holiday season.
The Chuy’s Christmas Parade on November 18th is the perfect way to kick off the season, as well as the Turkey Trot to keep you in shape even with all of the food you’re going to eat on the 23rd. Take a look at what happens right after your favorite food holiday in Austin.
ZACH Theatre’s “A Christmas Carol”
One event that you can go to now and all through December is the performance of “A Christmas Carol” by the ZACH Theatre. It’s a fun take on the classic tale that gives it a modern spin. It’s always a popular show in Austin every year. Check it out start 11/22/17.

It’s time to start shopping for gifts. Rather than hitting the mall, check out the Blue Genie Art Bazaar with all kinds of fun items that you won’t find anywhere else. There is original art, kitschy gifts, and local artisans providing you with some exciting holiday gift ideas.
Holiday Sing-Along Downtown
Who doesn’t love hearing the downtown carolers serenading the crowds before the Christmas tree is lit? Join in on the fun on 12/2/17 at the Texas State Capitol before heading down Congress Ave for the official start of the Christmas season. You’ll enjoy live music, art, shopping, and more to kick off the holiday celebrations.
53rd Annual Trail of Lights
Holiday lights are so exciting in Austin and this year marks the 53rd Annual Trail of Lights. Starting December 9th until the 23rd, you can visit Zilker Park for the fun. The tree lighting will take place in November and a 5k fun run in early December, but you can visit during these dates to experiences the holiday celebrations.
Armadillo Christmas Bazaar
Get your shopping done at the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar this year if you want even more handmade gifts and local art. The Aramadillo Christmas Bazaar goes from the 14th until the 24th to help you with those last minute gifts. You’ll even get to listen to live music and get a drink from the bar for the authentic Austin experience.
Ice Skating on the Plaza
Don’t forget about ice skating in Austin this season. The dates are TBD but you’ll find it happening daily from 10am-9pm at Whole Foods Lamar, the Whole Foods flagship store located on North Lamar. Don’t worry; they’ll have cider and hot cocoa as well as local music on the weekends.
Austin’s New Year
Lastly, December wouldn’t be complete without making your New Year’s Eve plans. This December 31st, be sure to hit Auditorium Shores for some family fun with everything from fire dancers to jugglers. It’s sure to be the perfect way to celebrate the end of one year and the start of a new one in your home of Austin.
