When it comes to great neighborhoods in Austin, there is no shortage. For parents that want a certain school district or just great schools in general nearby, there are a few neighborhoods that will really get you the lifestyle you’re craving, the education your kids need, a great location in town, and excellent amenities for your family to enjoy.

With a budget of $400k to work with, you won’t have any trouble finding the right neighborhood for your family. If you’re searching for the best Austin neighborhoods for a $400,000 budget that offers your kids great schools, these are the neighborhoods to look at first for everything that’s on your new neighborhood checklist.

Lake Travis Area

For those that are shooting for the Lake Travis part of town, you’ll love living by the lake, enjoying a great lifestyle, and being in the neighborhoods with the most highly-publicized school districts in the city. This is because the Lake Travis area has some of the best college prep programs to help students find their career path. You’ll love living the upscale life in the suburbs with highly rated schools and a unique part of Austin.

Check out Falconhead, one of the first neighborhoods of Bee Cave from the early 2000’s that is remembered for selling out in no time. The neighborhood has a low tax rate, an awesome Golf Club, and a great location in Austin. The average price is $540k, it’s just 27 minutes from Downtown Austin, and you’ll get to send the kids to Lake Travis Middle & High, Bee Cave Elementary, Lake Elementary, and Hudson Middle.

You could also find a great neighborhood in Lake Travis in Sweetwater, one of the newer communities that were developed by the same people who built Steiner Ranch. This premier neighborhood has resort-like amenities and gets you access to the Lake Travis ISD including West Cypress Hills Elementary, Lake Travis Middle and Lake Travis High.

Southwest Austin

Go with Steiner Ranch if you prefer a picturesque feel with great amenities, Canyon Creek if you love a newer home with access to an on-site elementary school and Olympic-sized pool, Avery Ranch if you want a neighborhood with access to two different school district, and Highland Horizon if you want new construction in your budget with easy access to 45 for a quicker commute.
