Why did you get into real estate?
Was weary from traveling all over the US through airports, and have done that for 30 years as a Healthcare Account Manager. I always planned to do real estate part-time when I retire, real estate has been good in the Austin area for a long time so I thought I would try it and see. I have not been disappointed in that decision!
What is your favorite weekend activity?
Working on the family ranch or my yard in Austin.
What is your favorite type of food?
Indian cuisine has to be my favorite. But I don't think anything can top a great chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and cream gravy, maybe a side of fresh green beans or fried okra. The other one I could not do without is a home grilled steak, with salad and a baked potato!
What is your favorite restaurant in Austin?
Chuy's! We have been going there since there was only one down on Barton Springs RD. Now there are several and one is just 3 miles from our home in north Austin.
Do you have any pets?
Yes, two dogs and they could not be more different. The oldest one is small about 13 pounds and also about 13 years old! 13 and 13 that is almost funny. You would never know his age from the way he acts, that is why I like small dogs, they usually live a long time. He is a Papillon, my daughter adopted him when he was about 1 yr old, but now he claims me as his owner.
Our larger dog is quite a mix and large, 75-80 pounds and 10 years old. She too acts half her age. Her mother is a full-blood Border Collie (apricot red, I had never seen one that color before) and her father is half Great Pyrenees and half Bernese Mountain Dog! That is where she gets her size.
They both have the same color pattern so we get a lot of comments on our dog walks.
What is your favorite movie?
The Great Escape
What is your favorite thing about your career?
That I am able to help people fulfill their dreams for their goals the future. It can be done, sometimes it just takes a lot of work, not just from me but from the buyer or the seller.
What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
From my 86 year old dad: "Do what you can today and if you have given your best it is good enough for one day. Get up tomorrow and do it again. You can only do so much in one day".
Why do you love Austin?
Lots of reasons, one because I was born in the old St. Davids Hospital many years ago! My dad worked the ranch but drove 40 miles into Austin and 40 miles back home for about 45 years at a job to provide for us. So I was always in Austin even though I grew up on a ranch and went to school in Marble Falls grades 1-12. It was a 25 mile ride each way to school that took 1.5 hours each way, and can't even imagine how long it took my dad back when the roads were still dirt and there were even a few gates to open!
Also because my family ancestors settled here along the Colorado River west of Lago Vista, back around 1850...they moved from Kentucky. There was so many Singleton's living along the Colorado River then (this was way before Lake Travis) that they named the place Singleton Bend. There is still a road going to my home place called Singleton Bend Road.
Because of my ancestors coming here I am now a 6th generation native Texan, and growing up here has helped me help others because I know most of the land around here like my back hand, and especially the Lake Travis lakefront.
